On October 22-23, 2016, the first meeting of CSIAM Science Popularization Committee is held in Chongqing Liyuan Hotel. The meeting is chaired by Prof. Xinmin Yang, the vice-president of Chongqing Normal University and the chair of CSIAM Science Popularization Committee.

At the meeting on the evening of October 22, Xinmin Yang first gives a warm welcome to the committee members, and then introduces the meeting's objectives, missions and meanings. The meeting proposes the committee's four-year plan as well as the detailed plans for 2017. It is also decided to report each workgroup's plans at the next CSIAM executive council's meeting to be held on November 4, 2016 in Shanghai. CSIAM secretary-general Guiying Yan introduces the founding of the Science Popularization Committee, as well as the development of mathematics and its applications in industry. Other committee members also give talks.
